The solemn feast of Corpus Christi

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This Sunday we celebrate the solemn feast of Corpus Christi. This is the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Although we celebrate the institution of the Holy Eucharist on Holy Thursday, the Church wants to emphasize the presence of the Lord with a special celebration. Since the name of our parish is Corpus Christi, we have an additional reason to celebrate this feast in a special way. This is why we have a Eucharistic procession: it highlights the reality of Christ’s presence among us and is a public witness of our faith.

After the procession, we continue our celebration at the picnic and Taste of Corpus Christi in the parish gardens. Since this year this day is also Father’s Day, we will honor our fathers both at the end of Mass and during the picnic.

I am glad to share with you that our bishop, Ronald Hicks, accepted my invitation to be with us next year on the feast of Corpus Christi. He will celebrate Mass and lead our procession. Please see his article on the next page.

In Christ,

Fr. Mark Jurzyk
